#005: BABY MAKING
HEY AUSTIN,
Where do gay dads get their babies from?
Do y’all think there’s some sort of buy-a-baby store for the gays?
We just placed an order online… No, no, no.
It was a 2 year process that involved a couple amazing women.
For those of you who don’t know, my husband and I had our daughter Maya through surrogacy.
It was a two-step process which involved creating embryos, with the help of an egg donor, and then pregnancy, through the help of a surrogate.
To make our dream of having a family come true, we worked with two amazing agencies and had help from two of the most amazing women.
1. Finding our Egg Donor
The first step in the process was to find an egg donor.
To do this, we worked with @egghelpers who had a fantastic online portal that let us take control of the selection process – I would highly recommend checking them out if you are serious about looking for an egg donor.
On the platform, we found the most amazingly selfless woman and we instantly connected. She agreed to help us start our family by donating her eggs, for our embryo creation.
2. Selecting our Surrogate
The second step in the process was to find a surrogate to carry our embryo.
For this process we workd closely with a canadian agerncy called @cfc.families They were great at facilitatiing communiction bewteen us and our potential surrogates.
We were connected with a modern day superhero. A woman who was willing to sacrifice 9months of her life, and her body, so we could grow our little bean…
And SO MUCH MORE… and it’s all on YouTube!
The whole process is complicated, and there were a lot of small obstacles that we had overcome along the way.
I talked about our entire journey on my YouTube channel in my “Gay Dads Make a Baby” series.

Final Thoughts
Remember that old saying “”It takes a village to raise a child””?
Well in our case, it took a village to make a child, and I just want to take a second to thank everyone involved.
I literally can’t say it enough.
To the agencies – thank you, we would have never been able to navigate all of the red tape when it comes to surrogacy laws
To our egg donor – you will forever be a part of our lives and our daughters life. We are so lucky to be sharing this special connection with such a selfless and amazing person.
To our surrogate – you sacrificed yourself, so we could have the family we always dreamed of. You are amazing. We will always be connected, and we are so fortunate to know you, and are constantly in awe of your selflessness.
Still curious about the process? Ask me anything.
If there are any details your curious about, let me know in the comments below and I’ll answer them for you.
